How do you have an edifying discussion with another person who holds an opposing viewpoint when you both have different definitions for the words you’re using?
Add to that, most people nowadays are very entrenched in what they believe and be it peer pressure or pride, have little interest in any discussion outside of the parameters they have constructed in their minds already.
Watching the awful incident and subsequent riots in Minneapolis over the past few days has me wondering how both sides can ever be reconciled. When the words you use don’t mean the same thing, how can you have a discussion?
When both sides act in bad faith ignoring obvious problems, how can there be any level of mutual respect?
It’s terrible to watch a human have their life snuffed out and livelihoods destroyed thereafter. It’s terrible to consider a miscarriage of justice. It’s terrible to see brothers unable to talk about the problems.
Without honesty and goodwill toward each other, how can we talk?
And if nobody can talk, maybe that’s why we are where we are.
