The 50% rule

To plan and prepare for the unexpected is hard. We crave adventure, but we simultaneously hate the unexpected. There are some things we can do to help with the unknown crisis that may be lurking.

  1. Next time you think you’ll need $30,000 put away for a rainy day, add 50% and put away $45,000.

  2. Next time you think it will take an hour to get to your networking event, leave 90 minutes before it begins.

  3. When making business/life plans, plan for the most difficult scenario and then expect it to be 50% more difficult.

Preparing your mindset, timing, and the funds you may need don’t take away the rainy day, but they sure make it easier to work through when it arrives.
