Most of us only really believe what we see or what seems plausible. Too often I fall into the trap of thinking there is no way something will happen a certain way or no way somebody will work with me or offer me this or that thing/job/opportunity so I abort the process myself and leave vast untapped potential behind.
The lesson I’ve learned from this (and still only sometimes apply) is that I must not be limited by the present. The present situation, thoughts, feelings, etc… The greatest inventions went from zero to one, not one to two.
Before Google became what it is, did our grandparents use search engines? Before Facebook, did we connect online as we do now? Before the telephone, did we imagine we’d speak our actual voice into a box and someone 1,000 miles away could hear us?
The best ideas and the biggest things that will change your life start at zero. That means nothing. That means the present tells you nothing is there and if nothing is there, there is nothing to pursue.
Potential arises when you refuse to be limited by the present and the mainstream conceptions of the ways things work.
As Steve Jobs puts it, “The ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”
